In Death Valley, even in the Spring with the air only warming to 87 degrees Fahrenheit, one must pack plenty of water. This was my lesson as I found myself parched after walking 45 minutes to the middle of the sand dunes just outside of the Stovepipe Wells area with only one liter of water on me. A lesson learned the hard way. You can literally lose yourself in this vast and wondrous landscape. The shapes continually shift as you wend your way through this amazing place. If I had enough water on me I could have stayed many more hours than I did. As it calls me back, I am in hopes to return in the Fall… with lots of water.
